Welcome to Our Website
How did we get here?
Well, with a lot of co-operation and lots of volunteer hours, our Niagara Falls
Block Parent ® Program has survived all the up-dates and changes and is a stronger more secure program despite all the grumbling....... mostly by me.. LOL
Our up-dating of files, rescreening every two years and yes despite my elevated blood pressure we are now up and running on BP link. This is our secure data base computer program that was put in to keep all Canadian programs and Block Parent® signs tracked and accounted for.
This past year we have been very busy with all of our events. We ran our Fingerprint and Photo I.D. clinics in 7 schools involving 1,000 students and 500 volunteer hours . Several other I.D. locations including the McBain Centre were held. Our two parades, both Canada Day and the Christmas Santa parade allowed us great visibility for Sgt. Blockie, our mascot, and Bert and Gert from Stay Alert Stay Safe. Please check our events page and photo gallery to see us in action.
Our “I.D. Team” is getting use to our new digital equipment. We just completed our first school using total digital and although printing is slower we managed.......grumble grumble. Our Polaroid film and very expensive Polaroid camera are now obsolete ..........the film is no longer made.
After 25 years the United Way is still graciously supporting our program which has allowed us to continue fingerprinting for free and keeping the identification card at $2.00 each .
We were approached by Fred Ceccato of the Optimist Club this past Fall. They were looking at doing a city wide fingerprinting for junior classes. They have come on board with us and have supplied 4 volunteers at each school we have done since then..They are very enthusiastic and have purchased participation plaques to be presented to the schools that run our I.D. program. It’s a win win situation. Any school wishing to participate, please call 905 354 5927 for more information.
We hope that you will consider becoming a Block Parent® . It is the easiest volunteer job you can do. When you are home and available you put your sign in the window. No money, no meetings, just complete your Block Parent® application which you can download from this site and mail it to Lynda Hendry at 7671 Rysdale Street, Niagara Falls Ontario, L2H1E9. It will be forwarded on to the Niagara Regional Police and a Free police check will be done. When it is completed and approved and clearances picked up, your sign will be brought to you. I can be contacted at tlhendry@cogeco.ca. Please help us make Your Neighbourhoods Safer Block by Block.
make your neighbourhoods safer block by block.
Yours in Block Parenting,
Lynda Hendry.
